UK and Scotland - Terms & Conditions



Minimum Rental Days

Peak Season - minimum 10 days required.
All other periods - minimum 7 days required

Scotland - Christmas period - for rentals between 22 December till 6 January - 14 days required.

Reservations / Payments

Reservations of motorhomes are only binding after they have been confirmed by the Rental Firm and then only for vehicle groups, not for vehicle types. This will apply even if a specific vehicle type is mentioned as an example in the description of the vehicle group.

A Down payment of 20% of the total booking amount (with a minimum of 400 GBP) is taken after booking is confirmed. The rest of the payment is due and payable 55 days prior to pick up day via credit card Visa or Master card or via bank transfer.

For reservation made 55 days or less prior to pick up day - full amount is due immediately after confirmation.


Cancellations Fee

55 days or more prior to pick up - 20% of total amount, (minimum of 400 GBP)
54-20 days prior to pick up - 50% of total amount,

19- 5 days before pick up - 80% of total amount,

Less than 5 days before pick up / Non show : 100% of total amount.

In any case of cancellation, a handling fee of 50 GBP will be charged, in addition to the cancellation fee.
Cancellation fees are of the total amount including extras and minus any applied discounts.
If a vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever No refund available.
If a bookings travel dates are amended to a lower season rates or less number of days, the cancellation fee for the original booking will apply.


Changes in Reservation

Changes may be made to a reservation confirmed at least sixty days before the agreed commencement of the rental period, as long as the Rental Firm has alternative capacity and the alternative booking corresponds in amount to the first.

Rebooking is only possible in the same calendar year. Later changes are not permitted.

Each rental amendment will be charged with 35 GBP amendment fee.

After conclusion of the contract the customer is not entitled to any changes with regard to begin of term of rental.


Security deposit

A security deposit of 1000 GBP must be paid by the hirer on pickup day by Visa or Master card credit card only. American Express or Diners card are not accepted.

A payment of the deposit with Prepaid Credit Cards or cash is not possible.
Clients coming from USA can only travel from the UK by paying a deposit of 2000 GBP.
The Rental Firm will reimburse the security deposit after the final rental account has been settled, as long as the vehicle is returned as required, clean inside, with emptied toilet tank and with no damage. Any charges incurred in addition to the hire charge paid in advance by the Hirer will be deducted from the security deposit when the vehicle is returned.

Note: The security deposit is refunded to the credit card account up to 14 days after drop off.

Note: The booking will be made on the name of the main driver who also must be the holder of the credit card for the deposit at pick up.


Fuel and operating costs are to be borne by the renter.

The vehicles are handed with full fuel tank and must be returned with full fuel tank, otherwise there will be a charge of the diesel costs = 2.20 GBP per liter labor cost.

Minimum age / Authorised drivers / Driving License

The Hirer and any other driver must be at least 25 years old.

Age limits: 25 to 75 years.
Additional driver/s are extra charge. maximum allowed 3 drivers total.


Driving License

The Hirer and any other drivers must have been in possession of a Class III / Class B or comparable national driving license for at least 2 years for vehicles up to 3.5 tones, and not less than 3 years for vehicles above 3,5 tons PLUS international driving licence !
Please Note that some of the Rental Firm's vehicles have a total weight of more than 3.5 tonnes and that to drive these vehicles an appropriate driving license is required. Those in possession of a Class B driving license must consult the Rental Firm about the engine size and the technically permissible total weight of the vehicle rented. If, upon renting, a respective driving license cannot be presented, the motorhome shall be regarded as not collected. In such case, there shall apply the respective terms of cancellation.


Authorised drivers

Maximum of 3 drivers per rental

Details of additional drivers required.

All drivers must be present at the rental location and present their valid standard driver's license .
All drivers must provide 2 separate forms of identification. i.e. utility bill (not older than 3 months), credit card and a passport.

The vehicle may only be driven by the Hirer and the drivers named at the time of hiring.

Drivers are personally liable for all legal penalties (e.g.: parking tickets) which are incurred during the period of hire.

Insurance requirements for rentals in Preston
Every client wish to pick up in Preston location, MUST supply the following documents before the rental starts:

* Copy of front & back of driving licence
* 2 proofs of address dated within 3 months of hire (this can be utility bills, council tax bills, bank/credit card statements etc)

* Number of penalty points on the licence (if any)

* Occupation
* DVLA code and driving experience of at least two years if the hirer is a citizen of the United Kingdom.

NOTE: vehicles in the UK are driven in the left-hand side of the road.

Pick up and Drop off

Pick up and drop off are possible only in the rental depot. Monday to Saturday.

No pickup and drop off on Sunday and holidays (see the above list)

Pick up and drop off times as shown in the rental contract are binding.

Getting to the Rental Depot
Arrival to/from the rental center are at the client's expense. 
Transfers can be booked in advance.


On-Line Check In : please note you must do Online Check In (Speed-pass) and call the rental location at least 3 working days prior your Pick-Up to arrange a suitable time for the vehicle Pick-Up or the transfer (if booked).


Pick Up

London: Monday to Saturday 15:00-17:00 (16:00 in winter time).

Edinburgh: Monday to Saturday 15:00-17:00 (16:00 in winter time).
Bristol: Monday to Saturday 15:00-16:00

Preston: Monday to Saturday 14:00-17:00

Rye: Monday to Friday 14:00-16:00, Saturday 14:00-15:00

Nottingham: Monday to Friday 09:00-14:00, Saturday 09:00-11:00


Pick up on Saturday is possible on request and with additional charge of 50 GBP

Before driving the wheel, the Hirer is under an obligation to take part in a detailed introduction to the vehicle by the Rental Firm's experts at the collection center. On that occasion, there is drawn up a detailed report (check out) of delivery describing the condition of the vehicle that is to be signed by both parties. The Rental Firm is entitled to refuse to hand over the vehicle until this introduction has taken place. If handover is delayed due to the fault of the Hirer, he must bear any costs incurred as a result.




* Before signing the contract please check the vehicle from the inside and outside

   and make sure there are no damages or broken parts. If there is some damage, have it noted to the rental agent in writing.

* Make sure you have all the items you paid for, and that nothing is missing.

* Before the departure make sure you know how to operate all the motorhome systems, mechanicals and electrical: refrigerator, heating, air condition, water etc. If it's not clear, you may ask for explanations.

* Please ask for a map or directions to nearby campground and supermarkets for

  you to stock up on food and bottled water.


Drop off

London: Monday to Saturday 09:00-11:00

Edinburgh: Monday to Saturday 09:00-11:00
Bristol: Monday rto Friday 08:30-10:00

Preston: Monday to Friday 09:00-11:00, Saturday 09:00-10:00

Rye: Monday to Friday 08:30-10:00 am, Saturday 09:00-10:00

Nottingham: Monday to Saturday 09:00-11:00

Drop off on Saturday is possible on request and with additional charge of 50 GBP

On returning the vehicle, the Hirer is under an obligation to carry out a final examination of it together with rental station staff, with a written return report (check in) to be prepared and signed by the Rental Firm and the Hirer. Any damage not specified in the report of delivery that is detected upon return of the vehicle shall be at the renter's expense.

The vehicles are delivered with a clean interior and are to be returned by the renter
in the same condition as are received. Should the interior not be in the same clean condition as received, the renter will charged 75 GBP cleaning fee and 100 GBP
for emptying the toilet


Late Return

Pick up and drop off times as shown in the rental contract are binding.

If the vehicle is returned after the time agreed in writing, the Rental Firm will

charge 50 GBP  fee (up to a maximum equal to the relevant full day price for each

day late).  Any costs incurred as a result of a subsequent hirer or any other person making claims against the Rental Firm on the grounds that a vehicle was supplied late must be borne by the Hirer.

Early return
There will be no refund for early return.


Liability and Insurance

In accordance with the principles of a comprehensive motor insurance, the rental firm will indemnify the renter from liability subject to an excess of 1000 GBP to be borne by the renter in case of damage subject to full comprehensive motor insurance per case of damage. The respective excess cannot be excluded.

The indemnity against liability described in upper Subsection will not apply if the Hirer

causes a loss/damage deliberately or by gross negligence.
Note: For clients coming from US, the deductible per occurrence is 2000 GBP.


If the Hirer causes loss/damage, he will additionally be liable in the following cases:

- if loss/damage was caused by impaired ability to drive due to drugs or alcohol

- if the Hirer or a driver to whom the Hirer has supplied the vehicle leaves the site of anaccident without justification

- if the Hirer fails to call the police to an accident

- If loss/damage is due to usage prohibited

- If loss/damage is due to a breach of an obligation

- If loss/damage is caused by an unauthorized driver

- if loss/damage is due to a failure to take account of the vehicle's dimensions (height English Road Traffic Regulations, with English Road Traffic Regulations or equivalent country signs.

- If loss/damage is due to a failure to comply with load regulations of the vehicle


To avoid increasing costs due to expenses incurred to establish the amount of the

damage suffered, the Rental Firm will in the event of accident damage initially supply the Hirer on request with sample invoices for the type of case concerned.

The Hirer is liable for all fees, charges, fines and penalties imposed upon the Rental Firm in connection with the use of the vehicle, unless these are incurred due to the fault of the Rental Firm. The rental firm reserves the right to deduct the fees, charges, fines and penalties from the client's credit card. Additional handling charges are subject to the displayed pricing lists at the rental stations.

More than one Hirer will be generally and severally liable.


Prohibited use, duty of care
The Hirer is prohibited from using the vehicle as follows: to participate in motor sport events and vehicle tests,  to transport easily inflammable, poisonous or otherwise dangerous substances,  to commit Customs or other criminal offences, even if these are only punishable according to the law applicable in the place where the offence was committed, for rental to a third party or for the commercial transport of passengers or for any other use going beyond that agreed by contract, in particular driving on terrain not intended for the purpose.


The vehicle must be treated carefully and appropriately and properly locked on all occasions. The regulations and technical rules applicable to its use must be complied with. Its running condition, in particular oil and water levels and tire pressure, must be monitored. The Hirer undertakes to check regularly to make sure that the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition.


What to do in the event of an accident
After an accident, theft or damage by fire or collision with a wild animal, the police must be informed immediately and also the Rental Firm via the Service Hotline +49(0)7562/987850 or the rental station (for Telephone Number see rental contract), at the latest immediately after the working day following the day of the accident/incident. It is not permitted to accept any third-party claims as valid.

Even in the case of very slight damage, the Hirer must prepare a detailed written report for the Rental Firm, including a sketch. If, for whatever reason, the renter fails to draw up such report and if, because of that, the insurance company refuses to pay the damage, the renter shall be obliged to pay full compensation for the damage.

The accident report must in particular include the names and addresses of anyone involved and any witnesses, together with the license numbers of all vehicles involved and has to be over handed filled out and signed by drop off latest towards Rental Firm.

Journeys abroad / European Travel
Journeys abroad within Europe are permitted. Journeys to countries outside of Europe are subject to the prior approval of the Rental Firm. Journeys to areas affected by war or crisis are prohibited.
There is an additional charge for European and Irish travel to cover European/ Irish roadside assistance:
Extra insurance cover for travel to Ireland = 8 GBP per day
Extra insurance cover for travel to Europe = 16 GBP per day

Driving in UK
If you are driving in the UK for the first time it could be a little daunting, here is a basic guideline for you and help you enjoy driving in the UK by knowing what to expect:
* Drive on the left-hand side of the road.
* Always pass (overtake) on the outside (right) lane.
* Do not block the middle lane if the inside lane is clear.
* When approaching a roundabout, give priority to traffic approaching from the right, unless otherwise indicated.
* You must always stop at a red traffic light.
* At a junction there's no general priority rule - priority is marked at most junctions.
* All traffic signals and road signs must be obeyed.
* All vehicles must give way to emergency services vehicles.
* The use of a car horn is not permitted in built-up areas from 23:30 to 07:00 hours.
* Do not drive in bus lanes during restricted hours. See signs by the side of the road for times.
* It's illegal to use a mobile phone when driving. If you need to make a call, find a safe place to stop first. On Motorways or multiple lane roads:
* Always pass (overtake) on the outside (right) lane.
* Do not block the middle lane if the inside lane is clear.

Seat belts must be worn by the driver and front seat passenger. Where rear seat belts have been fitted, they must also be worn

Driving in London City
London was the world's first major city to introduce a congestion charge to reduce the flow of traffic into and around the city centre.
Do Not enter Great London with a motorhome, there are heavy daily charges in that area and lots of cameras.

Defects in the motorhome
Any claims to compensation by the Hirer on the basis of defects for which the Rental Firm is not responsible are hereby excluded.

Any defects in the motorhome or its fittings/equipment which are discovered after the commencement of the hire must be reported to the Rental Firm in writing by the Hirer by returning of vehicle.

Claims for damages based on subsequently notified defects shall be excluded unless the claim is based on a defect which is not patent.



Repairs which are necessary in order to maintain the vehicle in a good working and roadworthy condition during the rental period may be ordered by the Hirer up to

150 GBP without consultation. Repairs going beyond this , may only be ordered with the consent of the Rental Firm.

The Rental Firm will bear repair costs on production of the original invoices and the parts replaced.

This does not apply to tire damage.

If a defect for which the Rental Firm is responsible makes such a repair necessary, and if the Hirer does not rectify the defect on his own initiative, the Hirer must notify the Rental Firm of the defect immediately and set a reasonable deadline for its repair. Any circumstances specific to a particular country (e.g. infrastructure) which delay the repair must be taken into account here to avoid disadvantage to the Rental Firm.


Substitute vehicle

If the motorhome is destroyed without any fault on the part of the Hirer or if it appears likely that its use will be prevented or withdrawn for an unreasonably long time, the Rental Firm will be entitled to supply the Hirer with an equivalent substitute vehicle within a reasonable period.

If the Rental Firm supplies an equivalent substitute vehicle, any termination by the Hirer is excluded. If in such a case the Rental Firm offers a motorhome from a lower price class and this is accepted by the Hirer, the Rental Firm will reimburse to the Hirer the difference between this and the price already paid in advance by the Hirer.

If the motorhome is destroyed due to the renter's fault or if it is foreseeable that its use will be prevented or made impossible for an unreasonably long period due to the renter' s fault, the rental firm may refuse to make a replacement vehicle available. In such a case, termination of the contract by the renter is excluded. If the rental firm provides a replacement vehicle, it can charge the renter with the transfer costs incurred.


Rental Firm's liability

The Rental Firm bears unlimited liability for deliberate action and gross negligence. In the case of simple negligence the Rental Firm is only liable for foreseeable loss/damage typical of the type of contract concerned where there is a breach of an obligation the meeting of which is of particular importance for the achievement of the purpose of the contract (cardinal obligation). This standard of liability also applies in cases of obstacles to performance at the time of the conclusion of the contract.


The above limitations and exclusions of liability do not apply to claims under the terms of the German Product Liability Act or to claims based on injury to life, limb or health or infringements of liberty Claims which are not excluded according to paragraph 13.1 but were only limited in scope shall become statute-barred within a year of the end of the year of the claim being created and the circumstances justifying the claim and the debtor's identity being disclosed to the creditor or the creditor, without gross negligence, being considered to be aware of such circumstances or identity. With the exception of claims for damages which are based on loss of life, physical injury, health hazards or the loss of freedom and claims based on the product liability act, claims for damages shall become statute-barred - with no consideration being given as to whether the creditor was aware of the circumstances and identity or, without gross negligence, should have been aware of such circumstances and identity - within five years of the end of the year in which the claim was created.

The McRent Terms and conditions apply. These are provided at the rental depot during pick-up and are published on our website. Additional price lists are published in each Rental Station.



McRent authorizes the use of these vehicles up to the stated number of passengers. Each person to use the safety restraints provided at all times whilst vehicle is in motion.


Change of vehicle

McRent reserves the right, at its absolute discretion, to substitute a comparable or superior Vehicle for the Vehicle. In that event, I shall not be liable for any increased rental or other charges save for any addition running costs pertaining to the substitute vehicle. Such substitution shall not entitle me to any refund and does not constitute a breach of this Agreement.



Number of Passengers- Load capacity
It is not allowed to use the motorhome with more persons than prescribed by law for the respective vehicle type (= specified number of seats and beds). After loading, the total weight must not exceed the permissible gross vehicle weight stated in the vehicle registration certificate.



All vehicles are non-smoking vehicles. Client will be charged with any breach of this condition.



The transport of pets is only permitted with the express consent of the Rental Firm.

Cleaning expenses, which result from non-observance, have to be paid by the hirer.

Any costs which may be incurred by de-ventilation or for elimination of contamination with smoke, including lost profits resulting from temporary non-availability of the vehicle for hire owing to these circumstances, shall also be borne by the lessee.


Safety Rules

In every refueling and every time before you start out on a journey, please switch the gas-fueled equipment off.


Winter Warning

External temperatures of 0 C (32 Fahrenheit) or below might cause the pipes to freeze. Under weather conditions like these, the vehicle will have to be permanently heated.

Please observe the instructions as to the frost protection device, which protects the boiler against frost. If the vehicle is not sufficiently heated, the frost protection device discharges the water from the boiler in order to prevent the boiler walls from breaking.

Motorhome International arrange the rental between the client and the rental company. when you pick up the vehicle, you must sign a rental contract provided by the rental company and subject to local laws.
