Day 1
Washington DC. Enjoy the famous monuments, the Smithsonian's many
museums, Arlington Cemetery, the White House, Capitol Building and more.
Chose from fabulous restaurants and take in a performance at the Kennedy Centre
or Ford's Theatre
Day 2
Collect your motorhome and drive through lush, rolling countryside, past gracious
horse farms to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Take a detour to
Manassas National Battlefield Park, site of Civil War battles, or to Luray
Caverns, the largest caverns on the east coast.
Day 3
Visit Charlottesville's treasure, Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. Enjoy
lunch at historic Michie's Tavern for a taste of colonial America and see Ash Lawn
Highland, the plantation home of President James Monroe.
Day 4
In Richmond the Capital of the Confederacy, visit the Museum and White House
of the Confederacy of National Battlefield Park. Explore the shops and restaurants
in historic Shockoe Bottom.
Days 5/6
Travel Scenic Route 5, stopping at a plantation along the way. Visit Colonial
Williamsburg, the most extensively restored 18th Century town in the US or
Jamestown Island, the site of America's first English settlement.
Days 7/8
Visit Newport News' impressive Maritime Museum or the Virginia Living
Museum before traveling to Virginia Beach, a popular resort with miles of
beaches and boardwalks. Experience the Virginia Marine Science Museum or
nearby Norfolk, home to 116 ships of the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets at the
US Naval Base. Stroll through 175 acres of azaleas, camellias and roses of the
Norfolk Botanical Gardens or see the latest in transportation at the Virginia Air
and Space Center in Hampton.
Days 9/10
Travel across the 17 mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge, crossing from Cape Henry to
Cape Charles. Stop at the Hopkins & Bros. Store, a general store dating from
1812, at the Wharf Oceancock. Visit Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge or
the NASA Visitor Center at Wallops Island. Step into the past with a luncheon
cruise from Crisfield to Tangier Island or Smith Island .
Days 11/12
Travel north past Cambridge, the setting for James Michener's novel
"Chesapeake". Travel through charming river towns on the Tred Avon River. Have
lunch at the Robert Morris Inn and then cross by ferry to Bellevue to St. Michael's
and visit the Chesapeake Maritime Museum. Explore Maryland's capital,
Annapolis. Visit the William Paca House and Gardens, the US Naval Academy
and perhaps take a cruise on the Severn River.
Day 13
Drive to Baltimore, "America's Renaissance City", with its glittering harbour,
National Aquarium, Davis Planetarium and fascinating neighbourhoods. At the
Inner Harbour you'll find unique shops, live entertainment and diverse restaurants.
Dine in Fells Point for regional cuisine, or Little Italy for an ethnic flavour.
Day 14
Enjoy the scenery en-route to Washington, return your Motorhome and enjoy a
safe trip home
