A 14-day Heaven in the Alps
I must compliment Motorhome Ltd. for enabling us to enjoy so much our wonderful trip.
We left on July 19th, 2006. We were a group of 3 families with children of all ages (2,7,9,10,18,22).
We took a charter flight and arrived at Munich on 5:00 am. As it was too early in the morning, we stayed in the terminal and waited downstairs in the basement level, where there was a 24 hours open cafeteria and an indoor playground.
The employees at the Munich rental offices where we took the vehicles were very nice and helpful. However, it is advisable to inspect the vehicle very carefully before leaving.
Our route was as follows:
Day no. 1: Munich – Lake
Day no. 2: Salzburg – Holborn/Anif Castle
Day no. 3: Salt mine/ Hallein - and visiting Lichtensteinklam Canyon (if you have time)
Day 4: Grosslockner Passage (a whole day) and the town of Lynch
Day 5: going through the Dolomites to San Giuliano and then taking a boat cruise to Venice
Day 6: traveling to Garda lake
Day 7: enjoying the area/parks
Day 8: going north through to the cities of Torento and Bolzeno and camping in one of the campgrounds in the area
Day 9: going to Lake Constance and from there to the city of Schaffhauser
Day 10: visiting the Rhine Falls and then going to Posen
Day 11: Posen – visiting the Neuschwanstein Castle and camping near by at Lake Posen – recommended!
Day 12: going to Munich
Day 14: Goodbye and flying back home
It is recommended to plan in advance your camping spots, in order to not waste on that precious time.
The Motorhome links as well as the “Michelin Maps” website present wonderful sites of campgrounds.
The planning of the route was done by the website which calculates the distance (in kilometers), the travel time, and the price per fuel/diesel that you pay.
The website also indicates toll roads and their prices.
It is highly recommended to travel in an RV. One time on the freeway between Venice and Garda lake we had to stop and wait for an hour and a half due to a road accident, so one of the families just took the opportunity to shower the kids and prepare lunch.
